Najmeddin Farrokhyar Publisher of Graphic Magazine
IGDN was a proud partner with Graphic magazine, collaborating extensively with Mr. Najmeddin Farokhyar on various graphic design competitions as a judge. Mr. Farokhyar, a celebrated graphic artist and the publisher of Graphic magazine, made a lasting impact on Iranian designers through his contributions to the field. Unfortunately, the magazine ceased publication, and we currently have no information about its whereabouts or continuation.
IGDN has also worked with notable figures such as Miss. Elham Joodaki, whom we invited to exhibitions and conferences hosted or sponsored by IGDN. One of the most memorable collaborations for me was with Pouya Golestaneh, whose enthusiasm for Mr. Farokhyar’s magazine and his expertise in Aseman Publications left a deep impression.
Insights from Najmedin Farokhyar on Iranian Graphic Design:
Mr. Farokhyar once remarked on the evolution of Iranian graphic design post-Islamic Revolution, crediting its growth to art magazines and graphic communities. He explained that graphic design in Iran began as an extension of fine arts but gained its own identity, thanks to pioneers like Houshang Kazemi and Mahmoud Javadipour, who introduced it as an academic discipline.
He highlighted how historical elements, such as ancient Persian calligraphy and Hellenistic motifs, influenced Iranian graphic art. However, he also noted challenges, including a lack of synergy with social movements and an over-reliance on European influences, which sometimes diluted its unique identity. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that with proper education and a focus on cultural roots, Iranian graphic design could surpass global standards.
Mr. Farokhyar’s vision and dedication continue to inspire, reminding us of the profound historical and cultural foundations of Iranian graphic design.
