Reza Abedini, born in 1967, is an acclaimed graphic designer, researcher, and educator. He studied graphic design at the School of Fine Arts in Tehran and earned a degree in painting and printmaking from the Art University of Tehran in 1992. Since 1989, he has worked extensively in typography, graphic design, and visual arts, combining traditional Iranian culture with modern design principles.
In 1993, Abedini founded the Reza Abedini Studio in Tehran and later established Orien+Atiolab in Amsterdam in 2008. He launched Dabireh in 2005, a publication and research collective dedicated to exploring Persian typography and its cultural significance. His innovative work bridges the unique characteristics of Perso-Arabic script with global design trends, fostering intercultural dialogue.
Reza Abedini’s achievements include winning the prestigious Prince Claus Award in 2006 for his contributions to Iranian graphic design. His career spans professional practice, teaching, and critical engagement with visual arts, both in Iran and internationally. Currently, he teaches graphic design at the American University of Beirut and continues to work on projects that redefine Persian typography’s role in contemporary design.
