More About: In 1962, a group of visionary designers and art directors united to elevate creative communication and set higher standards for their industry.
Among them were icons like David Bailey, Terence Donovan, and Alan Fletcher. They named themselves British Design & Art Direction and, the following year, launched their inaugural Awards event. Their standards were exacting—out of 2,500 entries, only 16 pieces earned the honor of the very first D&AD Yellow Pencil, a symbol of excellence.
Fast forward to today, British Design & Art Direction has evolved into D&AD, a global organization representing the creative, design, and advertising industries far beyond its British roots.
