The 6th International Exlibris Competition Varna, organized by the Jordan Petkov Art Foundation, invites artists worldwide to showcase their talent in this prestigious event. Partnering with Largo Art Gallery, this annual competition celebrates creativity, heritage, and the memory of its founder, Jordan Petkov. Here’s everything you need to know to participate:
Key Details and Eligibility
- Organizer: Since 2023, the Jordan Petkov Art Foundation has taken the helm, with Largo Art Gallery continuing as a partner.
- Eligibility: Open to artists globally, aged 16 and above.
- Entry Fee: None.
- Submission Timeline:
- Online Registration: October 1, 2024 – February 1, 2025.
- Artwork Delivery: Selected works must arrive by April 20, 2025.
How to Participate
Stage 1: Online Selection
Artists are required to submit digital reproductions of up to five artworks via the Largo Art Gallery online application form. Submissions should include:
- Digital images in JPG or TIFF format (maximum 4 MB, accurately oriented).
- A brief biography and a portrait photo.
- Files titled as:
Country_FirstName_LastName_Title_Technique_HeightxWidth(e.g., Bulgaria_John_Johnson_Owl_C3_130x150).
Stage 2: Jury Selection
The jury will evaluate submissions and notify selected artists. Successful candidates must send physical copies of their works to the foundation by April 20, 2025.
Artwork Guidelines
- Themes: Open theme, with a special prize for works dedicated to Jordan Petkov.
- Techniques: Accepted formats include intaglio, relief, flatbed, stencil, and digital techniques. Photocopies, drawings, or sketches are not allowed.
- Dimensions: Artwork size must not exceed 180×180 mm; paper size must be within 290×210 mm.
- Text Requirements: Each bookplate must include the owner’s name and words such as “Exlibris” or “Bookplate.”

- Online Submission Deadline: February 1, 2025.
- Artwork Delivery Deadlines:
- Non-EU countries: Ship by February 20, 2025.
- EU countries: Ship by March 20, 2025.
Exhibition and Prizes
- Exhibition Dates: June 6 – July 1, 2025, at Largo Art Gallery, Varna, Bulgaria.
- Catalogue: Selected artists will be featured in a printed catalog and receive a free copy.
- Awards:
- Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
- Special awards, including a bronze plaque from the Association of Artists, Varna, and the Jordan Petkov Prize.
